“Community“
“May you live in interesting times“ is widely understood to be the English translation of a Chinese curse, the origins of which are lost in time. Whatever its origins, it definitely feels like it applies right now. There isn’t very much we can do to influence the actions of those in charge on the global stage, but here in CCAG, along with our colleagues in the Arboretum Residents Association, we’re looking into what we can do to make the x the best place it can be. This much we do have some control over. So we are working with a number of Communities to help bring people together, to help reduce loneliness, separation and to make even small, positive steps towards integration and help changes happen.
There are so many communities may be brought to mind when you mention the word and as far as the majority of local folk are concerned, people are nice or not nice. So, in no particular order, here we go. . .
Environment Community
We’re so lucky to have so much nature right here on our doorstep. If you’re interested in finding out about which groups are active in our community and discover what opportunities are available for you to make connections and help make the Arbo an even better place to live check out our Environment Community resources.
Heritage Community
Though the Arboretum as we know it only dates back to the Victorian period and the building of Worcester’s canal and rail network a lot has happened in the area since it was built. From pleasure gardens, to munitions, to the battle in the 1970s to save the Arbo from being flattened by a flyover (no, really), our neighbourhood has a colourful past. If you’d like to explore our shared heritage, or volunteer to help with learning more about the Arboretum’s past, check out our Heritage Community resources. You might be surprised by what you discover, for instance, did you know there was a Bronze Age (2500 – 800 BCE) enclosure at Perdiswell as featured in A History of Worcester in 20 Digs?
Volunteering Community
There are lots of opportunities for volunteering in and around the Arbo. Some of them are listed in the Environment Community too, but there are lots of other local charities and groups who can offer the chance to meet new people, make new friends and make the Arbo even better.
Community Group Collaboration
We encourage inclusion and mutual support – the definition of community – and have a Community Group Collaborative page to show more.
To help us with events and support, here are the charities and groups we support.
